Editorial Policy
The standards we apply, the limits of our current review system, and how readers can report errors.
Our Editorial Commitment
At FinanceFirst.co, we believe financial education should be built on a foundation of rigorous research, transparent sourcing, and editorial independence. High-risk financial claims are checked against authoritative sources. Articles identify their author, applicable period when relevant, and review status. Separate expert review is shown only when it has occurred. Advertisers and affiliate relationships do not control our editorial conclusions.
Research Standards
Primary Source Research
For material financial claims, we prioritize primary and authoritative sources such as government publications, regulatory guidance, official disclosures, and peer-reviewed research. Sources are shown on the applicable page.
Multi-Source Verification
High-risk rates, limits, calculations, and regulatory claims are checked against authoritative material. A second source may be used where it adds meaningful confirmation or context.
Review Status
Pages identify their author and available review status. Independent expert review is named only when a qualified subject-matter reviewer has actually completed it.
Regular Updates
Financial regulations, tax laws, and market conditions change. Time-sensitive pages are reviewed when identified by monitoring, reader corrections, source changes, or scheduled editorial checks.
Our Editorial Process
This is the workflow FinanceFirst uses as its publishing standard. The roles completed for a specific page are disclosed on that page; not every article requires or has completed every review type.
Topic Research & Keyword Analysis
We identify high-impact financial topics through keyword research, reader feedback, and analysis of trending personal finance questions. Each topic must address a genuine reader need.
Deep-Dive Source Collection
Our researchers compile primary sources including IRS publications, SEC filings, Federal Reserve data, FDIC reports, academic studies, and official financial institution disclosures relevant to the topic.
Draft Creation & Fact Integration
Articles integrate sourced data with clear explanations. Material statistics and recommendations should be supported by evidence or explicitly labeled as assumptions or educational examples.
Editorial and Evidence Review
Editors review structure, clarity, sourcing, and obvious inconsistencies. Separate fact-checking or expert review is displayed only when it occurred and the responsible person is identified.
Compliance & Disclaimer Review
All content is reviewed for proper disclaimers, disclosure of any affiliate relationships, and compliance with FTC guidelines. We ensure readers clearly understand that our content is educational, not personalized financial advice.
Publication & Ongoing Monitoring
After publication, content may be flagged by source changes, reader feedback, scheduled checks, or internal audits. Material corrections and substantive updates are documented where supported.
Approved Source Categories
We maintain strict standards for the types of sources we cite. Our researchers are required to use the following categories of authoritative references:
Government & Regulatory
IRS.gov, SEC.gov, Federal Reserve, FDIC, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Treasury.gov
Academic & Research
NBER working papers, peer-reviewed finance journals, university research centers, Federal Reserve Bank publications
Industry Data
Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, S&P Global, Moody's, official exchange data
Financial Institutions
Official bank disclosures, brokerage firm research, insurance company filings, credit bureau reports (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion)
What We Will Never Do
- ✕Knowingly publish material financial claims without supporting evidence or an assumptions label
- ✕Allow advertisers or affiliate partners to influence our editorial content or recommendations
- ✕Provide personalized financial, tax, or investment advice for individual situations
- ✕Present sponsored content as editorial content without clear disclosure
- ✕Present a known-expired rule, rate, or limit as current
- ✕Guarantee specific financial outcomes, returns, or results from any strategy
AI-Assisted Content & Transparency
We believe in full transparency about our content creation process. Some articles on FinanceFirst.co utilize AI-assisted research and drafting tools. AI output is not treated as a source, and the review applied depends on the page's risk, evidence, and publication status.
Our target is to ensure that at least 70% of all published content reflects direct human research, analysis, and writing. AI tools are used to assist with initial research aggregation and draft structuring, never as a replacement for human editorial judgment.
Corrections & Updates Policy
If we discover an error in any published article, we issue a correction promptly and transparently. Material corrections are noted at the top of the article with the date of the update. Minor clarifications (grammar, formatting) are made without notation. Readers can report potential errors or request updates through our Contact page.
Publication and update dates are intended to reflect substantive editorial actions, not routine site deployments or template changes. Review frequency varies by risk and how quickly underlying facts change.
